Google's former CEO is now a strategic advisor to Chainlink Labs

Eric Schmidt, Google's chief executive until 2011, who later served as executive chairman at the tech company and its parent firm Alphabet, has joined Chainlink Labs as a strategic advisor, the Cointelegraph reported.

According to Tuesday's announcement, Chainlink said Schmidt will lead the company's scaling strategy in using oracle networks to launch smart contracts. Chainlink co-founder Sergey Nazarov cited Schmidt's experience in “building global software platforms for next-generation innovation” when the company decided to hire the former Google executive. “The launch of blockchain and smart contracts showed tremendous potential for building new business models, but it became clear that one of blockchain's biggest advantages –s lack of connection to the world outside itself –s also its biggest challenge, –Schmidt said. In addition to his work at Google and Alphabet, Schmidt has served as chairman of the Defense Innovation Board and chairman of the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence, and has served on the boards of Apple, Princeton University, Carnegie Mellon University and the Mayo Clinic. Schmidt, whose net worth is estimated at about $23.6 billion, is likely to be one of the wealthiest people serving as an advisor to a cryptocurrency company.
